Winner: Skoda Fabia
The Skoda Fabia wins the Supermini category for the second year in a row, which should be of no surprise as it’s one of the most impressive small cars on the market. With a starting price of €20,880, the Fabia continues to be one of the most spacious options in the sector and has an enormous boot that’s as big as that found in some cars from the class above.
Buyers can choose from four different trim levels (including our favourite, the Monte Carlo) and three different petrol engines. Though they’re all 1.0-litre units and quite efficient, there’s up to 110hp available, and the option of an automatic gearbox. The Fabia drives as well as it looks.

Peugeot 208
Peugeot has always had an excellent reputation for making great small cars, and the 208 continues that trend. Unusually, the 208 is available with diesel power as well as petrol, though our choice of the line-up is the electric e-208. That comes in for revision in 2024 with more range on a charge.
Toyota Yaris
The Yaris is a car that has transformed from a dowdy nun-mobile to a handsome, engaging and interesting vehicle to drive over the years. The current Yaris looks good and comes with excellent safety equipment and a good choice of specifications. Pricing starts from €22,620, making it one of the more premium superminis, but it pays that back with high resale values.
