February AA Fuel Survey: Fuel Prices Rise in February, EV Costs Drop Slightly

Published 19th February 2025Read Time 2 min

This February, Irish motorists are once more confronted with increased fuel expenditures; the latest AA Ireland Fuel Survey indicated that the rates for both petrol and diesel escalated by four cents per litre. At present, gasoline’s average cost is €1.80 per litre, and diesel’s price is €1.77 per litre, exacerbating families’ financial burden.

However, electric vehicle (EV) owners can find large relief in the fact that charging costs have decreased noticeably. The estimated yearly cost to cover 17,000 km in an EV has declined slightly to €810, thus giving a small monetary gain for those who have switched to electric vehicles.

Elena Leao, Marketing & PR at AA Ireland, notes that motorists can greatly manage ever-increasing costs by adopting several fuel-efficient driving habits. She advises that everyone can lower fuel use through proper route planning, maintaining a constant speed, and using eco-driving modes wherever possible. Vehicle maintenance on a frequent schedule does greatly improve fuel efficiency for all vehicles. Fuel usage may be optimise by checking tyre pressure, maintaining proper fluid levels, and replacing all air filters at every recommended interval.

To further support drivers, AA Ireland members can save on fuel costs via exclusive discounts at Circle K garages, in turn supporting drivers. Customers are able to receive a discount of 3 cents for every litre of petrol and diesel, and a discount of 6 cents for every litre of milesPlus fuel by using the AA Ireland App.
