What are the top 3 cruise destinations for 2023?

Suppose your idea of going on a cruise is negative: pensioners shuffling past deckchairs and the horror of organised fun. In that case, you might need a refresh because the cruise industry has evolved, and the modern cruise is very different from that portrayed in canned-laughter sitcoms.

One of the big appeals of a cruise is that you can get the opportunity to get through several of your destination wish lists, all on one holiday, and the beauty of going by boat is you get the chance to explore some far-flung islands.

1. Southern Caribbean

Suppose the cold weather is getting you down. In that case, you can get out of here as early as February with Celebrity Cruises aboard the Celebrity Millenium, with a seven-night Southern Caribbean Cruise starting in San Juan, Puerto Rico, before heading to St. Maarten on Day 3, moving on to an afternoon in Roseau, Dominica on Day 4, moving to Bridgetown, Barbados on Day 5, St George's, Grenada on Day 6, before returning to San Juan, Puerto Rico on Day 8. More info.

2. Spain & Portugal – Celebrity Cruises

This 10-day cruise from Celebrity Cruises, onboard the Celebrity Constellation, starts at Barcelona, Spain, on Day 1, before heading to Malaga on Day 3, Seville, Spain, before heading to Porto for an overnight stay on Day 6, before departing on Day 7 for Lisbon before taking in Valencia in Spain on Day 10 before docking back in Barcelona on Day 11. Pricing from €990 per person. More info.

3. Croatia, Montenegro and Italy

If you don't want searing heat but still want some of the most beautiful locations, how about a visit to Croatia, Montenegro and Italy for seven nights in late October? Celebrity Cruises offer a trip aboard the Celebrity Constellation from October 30th for seven nights from €765 per person, with up to 75% off the second guest. The journey starts in Venice, Italy, with an overnight stay before travelling to Dubrovnik, Croatia, on Day 3, sailing to Kotor, Montenegro, on Day 4, Corfu, Greece, on Day 5, before sailing to Naples, Italy, on Day 7, arriving in Rome, Italy on Day 8. More info.

Are cruises safe since COVID?

Most cruise companies now have extensive COVID-19 protocols in place. There are enhanced cleaning and sanitisation protocols on board, and the HVAC system continuously supplies and filters 100% fresh, filtered air space to all spaces. Larger cruise companies will have 24/7 Medical Care on board, and the cruise companies will monitor the ports of call to monitor if it is safe to go ashore.

Do you need insurance for a cruise?

It is recommended that you have suitable Travel Insurance in place for any trips, including cruises, to ensure you are covered if you need to cancel or curtail your trip for unavoidable reasons, have any medical issues while abroad or for lost/stolen baggage or personal possessions.

How much is cruise insurance?

Cruise cover does not come as standard in most Travel policies and needs to be added as an optional extra. The cost can vary depending on the level of cover you require.
