MG 5

Winner of Best Value EV

MG5

The MG brand is now ultimately owned by Chinese manufacturing giant, SAIC Motors. Their cars have gone through a real reinvention in the Irish market and are now very practical, excellent value EVs.

The MG5 is one of the only all-electric estate cars in the world. With a 57kWh usable battery, the MG5 will achieve a real world range of 350km. It has better than expected performance thanks to a 115kW motor that will sprint from 0-100km/h in 7.7 seconds.

There is good space in the back of the estate with 578 litres to the roofline, and 1,456l if you fold the seats down. The MG5 did enough for voter Donal Byrne to give the car his number 1 pick, saying that ‘At an entry price of €32,145 (after grants), the MG shows just how strong Chinese manufacturers are becoming. This is a very impressive new arrival on the Irish market, has very good range – even taxi drivers are embracing. Its styling is appealing and the interior finish is better than I expected it would be. It also comes with a seven year guarantee.’

Runners Up

MG ZS EV

Hot in the heels of the MG5 was its sibling, the MG ZS EV, which has recently been to the plastic surgeon for a nip and tuck, but the greatest improvements come to the interior design and quality, which make it feel like a much more expensive vehicle.

Peugeot_e_208

Peugeot e-208

The e-208 has quickly established itself as one of the best-loved and best-value EVs on the Irish market and the 136hp, 50kWh battery makes for a great combination in a car that costs just over €30,000 on the road.
