New Car Sales figures for August have been released by The SIMI and there were 8,157 units registered in August, 36.7% more than in August of 2021. The Volkswagen ID.4 was the biggest selling model in August, with 526 units registered, and Volkswagen was the most popular brand in August with 1,410 units registered.
2022 sales nearly catching 2021 levels
Year-to-date sales have almost caught up on 2021 levels, with 95,183 units registered, just 1.16% less than in 2021. Toyota continues to have an unassailable lead, with a 16.12% market share, ahead of Hyundai and Volkswagen . The Hyundai Tucson is the best-selling model for the year so far, incredibly Toyota has 5 models in the top 10 best-selling models.
EV sales up 80%
Electric cars now make up more than 13% of all new car sales, with Irish buyers buying 80% more electric vehicles than in 2021. They are also buying 20% fewer diesel models. 56% of all new cars are automatic, thanks to the increase in EV and Hybrid sales.
